30th anniversary Thailand trip

Greetings, all.

In 2025, my wife and I will be celebrating 30 years of marriage. The kindest way that you could characterize our original honeymoon would be *modest*. And that’s being extraordinarily kind. So, we’d like to have a trip to remember for our anniversary.

We know very little about international travel. I’ve been to Atlantic Canada several times and once, for just a few hours, across the border into Nuevo Laredo. Let’s be real: Canada is beautiful, but in many ways that matter it’s indistinguishable from the USA. The trip to Mexico was a technicality in so many ways. It may surprise you well-seasoned travelers, but my wife’s travel experience is slightly less than mine.

I’ve got lots of questions about how to make this happen as successfully as possible and lots of thoughts about what we’d like to do. Because of our limited experiences, I assume that there are questions I don’t even know to ask.

Here are some of the questions I have:

* Beyond the obvious, any recommendations on how to avoid mosquitos (and JE and malaria)?
* We enjoy walks on the beach, beach combing, and sunsets, but we aren’t interested in just lying about on the beach. Are there areas better suited to our interests?
* We love thunderstorms. We don’t want our trip washed out, but don’t mind at all if there are a few thunderstorms. I’ve read about the seasons, but am not 100% on how the data translates to real life.
* We’re thinking of a visit of at least two weeks, but possibly as much as three. If you live in Thailand or are a frequent visitor, and knowing what you know now, what are some of the places to go / things to do that you’d highly recommend?
* If you live in Thailand or are a frequent visitor, and you were planning a trip like this, would you recommend a travel agent or is a la carte travel a decent bet?
* I want to spend a significant portion (half?) of our time on an island facing west to see the sunset, with a private plunge pool. Suggestions for location / establishment?
* What kind of gotchas should we be on the lookout for?
* Are there tips and tricks that we should take advantage of?
* Best airport to fly into?
* What are the questions I should be asking but haven’t yet?

If you have questions about our plans or desires, ask away.

Thanks in advance!
