3 of Bangkok’s Imax theaters getting laser upgrades

Thailand’s largest cinema chain announced yesterday it is installing new tech at three of its Bangkok cinemas. 

The so-called “Imax with Laser” upgrade is coming to three Imax theaters operated by Major Cineplex at an unspecified date. The three cinemas are Paragon Cineplex inside Siam Paragon, Mega Cineplex inside Mega Bangna, and the Icon Cineconic inside Iconsiam.

With a dual 4K laser projector system, Imax with Laser consists of a new optical engine and unique Imax technologies that promise “increased resolution, sharper and brighter images, deeper contrast as well as the widest range of colors available to filmmakers to present more distinct, exotic colors than ever before.”

It was not immediately clear when the systems would be operating.
