284 people die and 2,307 injured in road accidents in seven days

The total death toll in road accidents across the country during the “Seven Dangerous Days” of New Year has climbed to 284, with Bangkok topping of the list with 19 fatalities, according to the Command Centre for the Prevention and Reduction of Road Accidents.

Seventeen people were killed and 205 were injured yesterday, which was the last day of the campaign to reduce road accidents during the long holidays.

2,307 people were injured in the same period in 2,288 road accidents.

48.5% of the accidents yesterday were attributed to speeding, 22% to cutting in front of another vehicles and 14% to poor visibility. 88.72% of the accidents involved motorcycles and 85% occurred on main roads.

Kanchanaburi province topped the list with the highest number of accidents and the highest number of people injured. There are 11 provinces where no deaths were reported, namely Krabi, Kalasin,…
