Pattaya Police arrested 24 illegal migrant workers yesterday, March 27th. The workers varied in nationalities including Indian, Nepalese, Burmese, Chinese, and Iranian.

The operation to crack down on foreigners working illegally in Pattaya was led by the Chief of Chonburi Immigration, Pol. Col. Parinya Klinkesorn. Around 50 immigration officials and police officers were dispatched to locations mentioned by police informants and concerned citizens.

Col. Parinya told The Pattaya News that he discovered a large number of foreign workers living in several areas. Police proceeded to check the identification documents and work permits of each individual and found that some were unable to produce them. In total, 24 foreigners were arrested for being unable to produce proper documentation and visas. These individuals are of Indian, Nepalese, Burmese, Chinese, and Iranian nationalities.

The workers are undergoing an identification process and will later be deported back to their respective countries if they cannot provide proof they are legally residing in Thailand.

According to Chonburi Immigration many of those arrested were also working illegally, especially at local restaurants, without work permits.
