20 million doses of Pfizer vaccines to come to Thailand: Thai cabinet

After Thai people have called on the government to get a hold of messenger RNA (mRNA)-based vaccines such as Pfizer and Moderna, the Thai cabinet today said it will bring in 20 million doses of Pfizer later this year.

After a meeting held on Tuesday, the Thai cabinet gave a green light to a purchase contract that will import a total of 20 million doses of highly-effective Pfizer from October onwards.

The vaccines will be made free for the people, according to the government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri.

More details will be announced on a later date, Anucha said.

To date, only two vaccines have been used to inoculate Thai populations : Sinovac and AstraZeneca. Millions more doses of Sinovac are expected to arrive this year.
