Pattaya —

The manager of the Lung Sawai Restaurant apologized to Pattaya officials and residents for putting chairs and tables on Na Jomtien Baech on Saturday, February 4th.

First our previous story:

Pattaya residents and netizens were peeved after a famous restaurant situated on a beachside reportedly put chairs and tables on the Na Jomtien Beach to accept customers.

Now for our update:

Pattaya officials led by Ms. Rapeepan Rattanaliam, chief of the Na Jomtien Municipality Office, visited the concerned restaurant located beside Na Jomtien Beach to talk with the restaurant manager about the restaurant’s alleged encroachment on the beach, which is restricted to public use only.

The manager, Mr. Nachanok Suraiphet, said on Sunday, February 5th, that the incident happened on Saturday, and it took him by surprise that it had received so much public attention on Facebook.

He explained that at that time, the tide receded to the point where the beach became completely dry, which had never happened before. Once he saw that, he and his friends decided to set up a few chairs on the beach just to drink and hang out amongst themselves.

However, Nachanok went on to say that his restaurant coincidentally had many customers who came from the northeastern (Isan) region with no seaside views at that moment, so he decided to put more chairs on the beach and told these customers to sit there just to please them.

The customers ate on the beach from 6 PM to about 9:30 PM on Saturday, the manager stated, adding he sincerely felt sorry for putting chairs on the beach and that he was willing to take any responsibility.

Meanwhile, Na Jomtien Municipality chief Rapeepan told local media that it was unclear which government agency was responsible for taking care of the concerned area because it was usually under water.

She would later call for a meeting of relevant agencies to identify the agency responsible for managing the beach.

The chief also instructed the restaurant operator not to encroach on the beach again, although she did not press any legal action against them.
