Thousands attend Magic of Thailand festival 2023 in Poole

Nearly 10,000 people came along to the festival in Harbourside Park to indulge in food, entertainment and products.

Many stalls sold Thai food, including street food, pad Thai and rare exotic fruits, with others selling jewellery, clothes and memorabilia those who have visited Thailand would expect to see.

Traditional Thai dancers took to the stage, along with Thai boxers, singers as well as “one of the highlights” according to organisers, ladyboys.

Three Buddhist monks also were on hand to give their blessings, including Nit, who said: “We do blessings for the people all for free.

“We want to make people happy and lucky and we are here for peace.”

Among the stalls was Boscombe’s very own Thai Smile, a restaurant in Christchurch Road.

Lux, who works there, said: “We have been coming here for 10 years now and we sell street foods such as pulled pork, meatballs, salad and Thai noodles.

“Some of the foods we do is specifically for the event, we don’t do it in the restaurant.”

Organiser Jackie Winitkun said: “What we have here is little Thailand in Poole. This is our 10th anniversary this year, so we thought we’d do something very special.

“I used to live in Bournemouth and work in banking and we started the Thai festival as a hobby to get to know Thailand a little bit more, so we started here for the first ever time in 2012.

“We had such a warm welcome from those in Poole and Bournemouth and it’s because of this that we now have Magic of Thailand Festival’s in 10 cities across the UK, including London, Manchester and Brighton.

“We have created so many jobs and businesses; there are a lot of Thai people here. Some Thai ladies have come here and they didn’t speak English or know business and have created this.”

There was also a raffle in which winners can bag themselves a free holiday to Thailand.
