The Thaiger – Wild Elephants Cause Alarm for Locals and Campers in Nakhon Nayok and Tak

Officials in Nakhon Nayok and Tak provinces responded on February 5 to wild elephants emerging from nearby forests, causing disturbances among residents and tourists. In Nakhon Nayok, a notable incident occurred when a large male elephant, named “Phlai Thongkham” or “Golden,” descended from Khao Yai mountain and wandered into a fruit orchard near Cheetah Campsite.

Residents from Moo 8 in the Nong Saeng subdistrict alerted wildlife officials about the situation, which alarmed both locals and campers. It took authorities over two hours to safely guide the elephant back to its forest habitat. The apparent elephant encounter resulted in damage to various crops, including bananas, mangoes, and marian plums.

Officials advised residents and campers to exercise caution, especially at night, as the elephant may return to the area. The incidents highlight the ongoing interactions between wildlife and human activities in Thailand’s natural regions.
