The Thaiger – “Thailand’s Efforts to Expand Northern Airline Routes to Enhance Tourism”

Transport Deputy Minister Mallika Jirapanwanich is encouraging airlines to expand routes in North Thailand to enhance tourism and stimulate the local economy. The Department of Airports is implementing the ‘New Route – New Airline’ policy to promote new flight paths in the region.

During her discussion on November 8, Mallika noted that the northern region has become increasingly popular among both Thai and international tourists. Its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage have driven demand for specific routes, such as Chiang Mai-Mae Hong Son.

However, Chiang Mai’s crowded flight schedule presents challenges. The Department of Airports aims to motivate airlines to create new routes connecting various airports under their management. A promising alternative is the Lampang-Mae Hong Son route, which enhances connectivity to Chiang Mai and offers additional flight options to Bangkok.
