Thailand’s PM self-isolates after COVID-19 exposure in Phuket

After attending the reopening of Phuket on July 1, Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has gone into self-isolation after coming in close contact with a COVID-19-positive business leader.

In an attempt to reopen Thailand and gradually retrieve its economy, Prayut, accompanied by several ministers visited Phuket to welcome the first group of vaccinated foreign tourists to arrive without having to quarantine.

According to Bangkok Biz News, Veerasak Pisanuwong, the president of the Surin Chamber of Commerce attended the same event and met with Prayut.

Since returning from Phuket, Veerasak announced on Facebook that he had tested positive for COVID-19, prompting Prayut to go into self-isolation.
