Thanks to a surge in COVID-19 cases and a slow vaccine rollout, officials in Bangkok, Thailand have decided to turn 15 disused train carriages in the capital into makeshift COVID-19 wards, only for patients with less severe symptoms.
This comes as the Thai healthcare system struggles to keep up with the constant rise of infection, thus running out of hospital beds for those that need them the most.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) says there’s still a lot of work to be done to make the trains COVID-ready.
“Some modifications are still to be done such as removing the top bunk beds, installing window nets, as well as water and electricity systems,” the BMA said in a statement.
