Thailand’s bid to claim two titles at the US$360,000 Korea Open ended in despair on Sunday when Pornpawee Chuchowong and doubles stars Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard lost in the finals in Suncheon.
Sixth seed Pornpawee fell to Korean second seed An Se-Young 17-21, 18-21 in the women’s singles championship match of the World Tour Super 500 event at Palma Stadium.
It was the 20-year-old Korean’s first title of 2022. An was a runner-up at the All England Open last month.
Benyapa and Nuntakarn also lost to Korean opponents as the Thai eighth seeds were beaten by seventh seeds Jeong Na-Eun and Kim Hye-Jeong 16-21, 12-21.
