Thai Police captured two alleged tour company scammers, deceiving those seeking foreign employment with false advertisements on social media. More than 80 victims were allegedly deceived.

On October 11th, 2023, an investigative squad captured two suspects on arrest warrants of Pattaya Provincial Cout, identified only as Mr. Varintorn, 30-years-old, and Mr. Pattanachai, 27-years-old. They faced the following charges: Conspiring to seek foreign employment without authorization, Conspiring to deceive others by falsely promising the possibility of foreign employment, and conspiring to commit fraud.

Mr. Varintorn and Mr. Pattanachai had established a private tour company, however, they allegedly falsely advertised on social media that they could give foreign applicants a work visa and targeted illegal migrants. They would ask applicants for a processing payment upfront of 30,000-100,000 baht. There were more than 80 individuals who believed in the process but say they were deceived when no work permit or visa was forthcoming after paying the cash.

The victims attempted to ask for a refund but Mr. Varintorn and Mr. Pattanachai allegedly refused, avoided, and even sued some of the victims for false reports and defamation. However, the victims gathered together as a large group and reported to relevant officials for help which led to the later issuance of the arrest warrants.

During the investigation, the suspects have continued to deny their wrongdoings and say they are innocent; additionally, according to Mr Varintorn’s criminal record, he was previously issued 2 arrest warrants on similar charges.

Laem Chabang Police officers in Chonburi escorted Mr. Varintorn and Mr. Pattanachai to hold them in custody awaiting further legal action. It was unknown if the suspects had applied for bail as of press time or retained the services of a lawyer.
