Thai immigration: Apply for visa extensions by tomorrow or face fines – and worse

Foreign nationals unable to fly home must hurry by tomorrow to the Immigration Bureau for temporary visa extensions without paying fines, a Foreign Affairs Ministry rep said today.

With the pandemic visa amnesty set to expire Saturday, ministry spokesperson Tanee Sangrat said people can apply for 60-day extensions set to begin Sunday. According to Immigration Bureau rules, applicants are not required to obtain letters from their embassies but should download and complete a self-affidavit.

It has 10 questions to complete, written in varying levels of Thaiglish.

Applicants may apply for up to 90 days after Saturday’s expiration, Tanee said, but will be assessed a fine. He said that those who remain without applying will be considered as overstaying their visa and face prosecution, deportation and being blacklisted.
