State Railway blocks City Hall movie screening at Hua Lamphong

Railway officials today said they won’t allow a public movie to show at its historic Bangkok rail terminal. 

One day after it was announced by City Hall, a movie screening at century-old Hua Lamphong was called off after the State Railway this morning announced it would not allow the venue, formally known as the Bangkok Railway Station, to be used to screen a movie for fear of spreading COVID-19, especially during the long holiday weekend. 

Ekkarat Sriarayanpong, railway spokesperson, said that the station was an “inappropriate” venue to host a movie since it’s enclosed and has poor ventilation. 

Ekkarat said Hua Lamphong will receive hundreds of passengers during the long holiday weekend and fears that infections could spread were the venue to welcome moviegoers.
