Sidewalk hellmouth outside Bangkok’s ‘Ancient City’ chews on Chinese tourist leg

As of this morning, the city had done nothing to fix a broken maintenance shaft that ate a Chinese tourist’s leg in southeast metro Bangkok

People this morning complained that the only one to take action was a witness to the tourist’s injury, who covered the gaping sidewalk pit outside the Ancient City tourist attraction with a piece of plywood, two traffic cones, and some small, sad flags. 

Thanakrit Biphichanon, 52, said he was waiting for friends in the area when he saw six tourists exit a tuk-tuk, likely on their way to the Sukhumvit Road tourist attraction in Samut Prakan province. One of them, a 50-year-old man, stepped into the hungry hole and sustained wounds to his leg and thigh.

Thanakrit went to help, and the man was carried off by his friends.
