Sarawut steps down as Port coach after lacklustre run

Sarawut Treephan has quit as coach of Thai League 1 side Port following a string of poor results.

The 42-year-old announced his resignation yesterday after Port lost 2-1 at Buriram United in the league on Saturday.

Since the 2021-22 season resumed last month, Port have won only once in nine games in all competitions.

They were knocked out in the FA Cup and League Cup during the spell and are currently seventh in the league.

“I’d like to apologise for the bad results,” Sarawut said. “The results were not what we had expected, so I have to resign to take responsibility.”

Assistant coach Weerayut bin Abdulaman will take charge of the team.

Sarawut was moved “upstairs” earlier this season and replaced by Dusit Chalermsan.

But Dusit’s reign lasted just months as Sarawut was appointed…
