Riding BTS will be more expensive starting Jan. 1

Riding Bangkok’s skytrain will be more expensive when 2023 arrives.

Fares for the BTS Skytrain will increase THB1 to THB3 on New Year’s Day, according to BTS chief executive Surapong Laoha-unya on Wednesday.

The rise of the fare cover the 23.5 kilometers of the BTS Concession Line, totaling 24 stations: Sukhumvit Line (Mo Chit station to Onnut station), Silom Line (National Stadium station to Saphan Taksin station), and Silom Extension Line (Krung Thon Buri station to Wongwian Yai station.)

Effective Jan. 1 onwards, the current area rate from THB16-THB44 will increase to THB17-THB47. 

Surapong noted that the new set of prices is still below the maximum fare ceiling under the concession contract that set the prices between THB21 to THB64. 

Surapong cited the worldwide inflation and increasing maintenance costs behind the rise of the fare.
