Pattaya Advances Jomtien Beach Nourishment with 318 Million Baht Project to Add 300 Meter Sections Over 900 Days

Pattaya, Thailand, November 17th, 2025

Construction on the second phase of the Jomtien Beach sand replenishment project is progressing steadily, with work carried out in 300-meter segments at a time over a total of 900 days. The ฿318 million contract has been awarded to Nawarat Patanakarn Public Company Limited, with completion targeted for July 13th, 2027.

Reporters conducting a drone survey of the site observed continuous operations, including sand-suction vessels pumping material ashore, backhoes excavating, and bulldozers grading the beach to align with Pattaya’s master plan for revitalizing this key tourism shoreline.

Phase 1 of the initiative, launched in 2020 at a cost exceeding ฿586 million, was executed by Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited. It involved placing over 640,000 cubic meters of sand sourced from Ko Rang Kwian island along a 3.5-kilometer stretch from Jomtien Chalet Hotel to U Jomtien Pattaya Hotel. The effort widened the beach to an average of 50 meters and was officially handed over to Pattaya City for maintenance in 2022.

The ongoing Phase 2, which will eventually expand to Dongtan Beach, represents a critical step forward for the city, expanding recreational space, enhancing tourism appeal, and creating a natural barrier against future wave and wind erosion. Those involved stress the need for long-term monitoring of environmental impacts, sand retention, and effective management of the public beach area once construction concludes.

Authorities say the project will ultimately improve Pattaya’s status as a premier coastal destination while prioritizing sustainability.
