One Thai killed in Seoul Halloween stampede: embassy

One Thai national died during the stampede in Seoul that killed Halloween revelers, the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul announced yesterday.

No further details were given regarding the victim, who was among the more than 150 people trampled to death Saturday night by a surge of people in the overcrowded street of Itaewon in central Seoul.

“It was reported by the South Korean police with great regret that one Thai person had died as a result of the incident,” the embassy said in a statement. “The embassy is in the process of coordinating with the South Korean authorities for details and inform the relatives of the deceased and to continue to assist in the management of the deceased.”

The mass casualty event has been described by South Korean officials as one of the nation’s worst tragedies.
