Nong Bua massacre families collect ashes of their dead

Relatives of those killed in a shooting spree last week came to collect their ashes this morning at Wat Rat Samakkhi in Nong Bua Lamphu.

Six days after the mass shooting and the morning after funeral rites ended, families of 18 of the 24 children and one teacher killed at a nursery in the northeastern province by an ex-cop began to make merit and give alms to the monks.

Religious icons were buried under a large tree in the temple area in a Buddhist ceremony to lay the victims to rest.

Funeral rites at the temple ran from Tuesday morning into the night. Many of those in attendance were unrelated to the victims but came to give moral support.

Another 11 victims were cremated at another area temple, at Wat Sri Uthai.

On Thursday, former Sgt. Panya Kamrab shot 24 preschoolers before murdering his toddler, wife, and self.
