Recently, Mr. Warawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment together with Ms. Semonetta Sommaruga, Minister of Environment, Transport, Energy and Information Swiss Confederation Make an operating agreement under the Paris Agreement between Thailand and the Swiss Confederation. This is the world’s first dual carbon credit transfer agreement.

 

Under the agreement, the two countries established a cooperation framework for the international transfer of greenhouse gas reduction results. The Swiss Confederation will support the implementation of a program promoting clean energy and electric vehicles (Ebus) in Bangkok, which will involve both the private and public sectors. And Thailand is expected to be the first country in the world to transfer carbon credits from such projects.

 

Miss Traisuli said that reducing carbon emissions And the creation of a carbon credit trading mechanism is an important policy that the government has accelerated to drive. Currently, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has laid out guidelines and mechanisms for managing carbon credits in Thailand as a guideline for the use of carbon credits for domestic and international purposes in accordance with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. including the provision of benefits by government agencies

In the case of use for international purposes It has defined the type, nature of projects that will be permitted to use carbon credits. issuing a permit as well as carbon credit transfers

 

The Prime Minister has announced the goal of Thailand. During the 26th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) meeting in November 2021 that Thailand will go towards Carbon Neutral by 2050 (B.E. 2050) and Net Zero Emission by 2065.
