Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Core Skills


    Have you ever tried to ride a horse? Not a little beach trot, I mean a real horse, they are powerful animals.

    It’s not so easy, if you’re too rigid and tense, squeezing too hard with your legs for example, the horse picks up on it and you don’t get the full potential from the horse or even any of its potential.

    On the other hand if you show no discipline, no strength and no direction at all the horse won’t respect you, it’ll just wander wherever it pleases or bolt throwing you off.

    It’s all about balance.

    As people, our emotions, thoughts and actions are the horse. We as people are the rider. It’s our job to get the best out of our emotions, thoughts and behavior through our own balance and control. Too strict, too intense we can burn out or break down. Nobody wants that. Too little control is the same as taking no responsibility over our life though. Just like the horse, you get nowhere without having any discipline over your mind.

    It’s all about balance and CBT – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on simple principles that anyone can learn and incorporate into their life.
    In this online 2 hours with the Hive next week I will be going through some of these principles and specifically with a focus on anxiety.

    One of the things I have learned in my experiences both personal and professional is that when a person understands how anxiety is created in a more detailed way we become more motivated and confident that we can actually take control of all kinds of areas in our life.

    As someone who knows in great detail how it feels to experience anxiety and the effects it has on life, my sincere advice in this area is to learn as much as you can about the things you want to change in yourself. It quite literally opens up and strengthens more empowering pathways in your own brain.
