Legally driving a scooter in Thailand

Hi everyone I have a few questions about what it takes to legally rent and drive scooters around Thailand.
I’ve done a bit of research online but I’m getting a lot of different answers.

Main things I want to know:
– Do I need a International Driving Permit on top of my UK License?
– Do I need to get qualified to ride over 50cc in the UK, or can this be done in Thailand?(The max I can ride with my license is 50cc)
– If this can be done in Thailand, where is best to go?

I do realise I could just go to a rental and get one without having all this, as many people have done the same, but I don’t feel comfortable risking it. Especially since I’ve never driven one before.
