Kunlavut, Busanan march on

Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn and Busanan Ongbamrungphan advanced to the last 16 round of the US$1 million All England Open Championships in Birmingham on Wednesday.

Kunlavut, who claimed his first World Tour title in Germany on Sunday, defeated HS Prannoy of India 21-15, 24-22 in the men’s singles event at Utilita Arena.

The 19-year-old rising star fended off a game point in the second to seal his place in the last 16 against Jonatan Christie.

Christie survived a scare against Brice Leverdez as the Indonesian seventh seed needed three games to overcome the Frenchman, 21-9, 16-21, 21-17.

Earlier, Busanan breezed past Leonice Huet of France 21-9, 21-13 in the first round of the women’s singles event of the BWF World…
