Kickin’ the shit at Khao Yai’s ‘Country Road’ festival (Photos)

Yeehaw and boy howdy – the Country Road music festival blew up the dusty mountains of Khao Yai this past weekend.

Bands included youngsters pickin’ fingerstyle guitar and Bangkok’s very own British banjo aficionado Rich Boyle. It was all denim and Stetsons and Old West cosplay, but a little friendly cultural appropriation – as well as a whole hog roast – went down easy with copious quantities of lao khao, and the music went on well past midnight Saturday and Sunday.

With dude ranches, line dancing and cattle farms, Nakhon Ratchasima, aka the “Gateway to Isaan,” is famous for its cowboy swagger. This year was the festival’s second outing.
