Is it weird to have a temporary roommate in a 1 bedroom in Bangkok?

Hi everyone

27F here. I honestly love living alone, but I’m trying to move closer to Ekkamai and the rent is painful 😅

I don’t really want a 2-bedroom because that just means paying even more. So I was thinking… would it be possible (or super weird) to have a temporary roommate in a 1-bedroom place?

I wouldn’t mind sharing the bed for a short time if it helps with costs — I’m more just unsure if this is realistic or socially normal in Bangkok.

Has anyone done something like this before?

Is it better to just suck it up and live alone, or is a short-term roommate situation actually workable?

Would love to hear your thoughts

———————-Update / More Context————————————-

I just want to add more details because I think some things were misunderstood.

I’m 27F, Thai. I use English more than Thai in daily life because I grew up abroad with a foreign stepfather and studied in an international school. That does not mean I earn an expat salary. I work on a local Thai income like most Thai people.

The area I want to move to is around Phrom Phong / Ekkamai. The condo I’m looking at is actually very reasonable at about 12,000 THB/month. Right now I pay 8,500 THB/month in rent.

But my transport cost is the real issue.

At my current place, I spend about 4,000–5,000 THB/month just commuting.

If I move closer, transport would drop to about 0–1,500 THB/month.

When I do the math, staying vs moving ends up being almost the same total cost.

I usually use Grab bike because:

• Bike → BTS → walk → another bike = about the same price as just taking one bike straight

• BTS requires multiple transfers and long walking every day

• Bike is faster but more dangerous

I’m exhausted from commuting every day. BTS is tiring with 3 steps each way (6 total per day), but the bike is risky. I’ve already been in two accidents.

Also, I want to be clear: I don’t need a roommate. I can live alone.

But the idea of having a roommate is interesting because it could mean saving some money and maybe making new friends. I was just exploring options, not saying I must do it.

So I’m not asking because I’m desperate. I’m just trying to find a safer, smarter, and more realistic way to live and work.

That’s the full context.
