HBO Thai murder mystery ‘Forbidden’ to debut at Busan

Mystery and superstition suffuse in a paranoid thriller in HBO’s first Thai-language series, which will premiere next month at an international film festival.

HBO Asia’s Forbidden has been selected for the Busan International Film Festival and is expected to reach Thai viewers soon thereafter.

The series chronicles four friends who travel to a remote village for the funeral of one friend’s estranged father. Soon after, a superstitious whodunnit unfolds with everyone suspicious of each other.

Forbidden was co-directed by Anucha Boonyawatana – whose 2017 critically acclaimed indie drama Malila: The Farewell Flower explored the tragic love of two men through the lens of Buddhism – and Korean-American director Josh Kim (How To Win At Checkers (Every Time)).
