Frenzied ultra-royalist who injured shopper at Bangkok mall can’t be charged: police

A disturbed man who shattered glass bottles and injured a passer-by at a downtown Bangkok shopping mall while brandishing a portrait of the king was not and will not be charged due to his mental condition, the police said.

Col. Pansa Amarapitak of Pathum Wan Police said that Kaneshpitsanuthep “K 100 million” Chakkraphopmahadecha – who poured bottles of red soda onto himself as he paraded through Siam Paragon on Sunday while holding a framed portrait of King Vajiralongkorn and shouting incomprehensibly – “cannot be prosecuted” because he is emotionally disturbed. 

However, as Kaneshpitsanuthep has committed a number of outrageous disturbances over the years, including releasing cobras in front of another mall and scuffling with police, the authorities instead fined an unidentified relative THB6,000 (US$185) for “neglecting” the man.
