European expat – Health insurance + liability coverage for daily motorcycle rider?

Hey everyone,

I'm a 27-year-old European living in Bangkok with a Thai driver's license. I ride a motorcycle daily and I'm trying to figure out my insurance situation before something bad happens.

My situation:

  • European passport, been living in Thailand for a while
  • Modest income (not rolling in cash)
  • Ride motorcycle every day with valid Thai license
  • No pre-existing conditions

Health insurance question:

I've been comparing Pacific Cross and AXA SmartCare. Both around 35-40k THB/year for 5M coverage
Main concern is a serious motorcycle accident surgery, ICU, rehabilitation.

One thing I noticed: Pacific Cross doesn't cover rehabilitation/physiotherapy after hospitalization, but AXA does. For a potential moto accident, this seems like a big deal. Any experience with them ?

Liability insurance question (this is where I'm lost):

What happens if I cause an accident and injure someone else? Does health insurance cover that? I'm guessing not.

  • Do I need separate third-party liability insurance?
  • If I seriously injure a Thai person, am I personally liable for their medical bills? Could this bankrupt me?
  • Any recommendations for additional liability coverage as a foreigner?

I just want to make sure I'm not one accident away from financial ruin – both for my own medical bills AND if I hurt someone else.

Thanks for any advice!
