Electric boats back in business tomorrow in Phadung Khung Kasem canal

Clean-running electric boats return to Bangkok’s Phadung Khung Kasem canal tomorrow, a month behind schedule.

Six months after the service was suspended due to canal maintenance, the eight vessels will resume noise-free trips between Bobae Market and the Phan Fa Lilat Bridge to Phra Sumen Fort.

Transport officials had announced the suspension of services by the Krungthep Thanakom Co. in early September as city workers dredged the canal.

The boats are meant to be less polluting, and service resumes as the capital city is grappling with prolonged, serious air pollution.

The company will cooperate with King Mongkut’s University of Technology in Thonburi to research and develop electric navigation systems to make the ship’s electrical system stable and able to sail at a low cost. This will help make electric navigation sustainable in the future.
