To prevent the further spread of the novel coronavirus, Americans are now being advised to wear face coverings any time they go in public, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.

The guidance, which was announced by President Donald Trump during a press conference, does not mean Americans should purchase medical-grade masks worn by health professionals, which are in short supply. Rather, a basic cloth or fabric mask is all that’s needed, the CDC said.
