Bangkok trains face strike risk as dispute with government escalates

BANGKOK — Workers at the Thai elevated train operator BTS Group Holdings are threatening to go on strike as persistent conflicts between the company and the government affect its profitability.

Service disruptions in the mass transit system would affect the Thai economy negatively, as it is used by hundreds of thousands of commuters and tourists every day due to its cheap fares and as a way to avoid the city’s infamous traffic congestion.
