Bangkok taxi passengers have to pay for baggage from now on

Starting today, commuters will get charged for baggage when they hop on a Bangkok taxi. Additional charges may apply on trips to and from the airports.

Charges of up to THB100 (US$3) for each baggage item such as boxes, sports equipment, musical instruments, bikes, and luggage will be applied to a passenger riding in a Bangkok registered cab, as outlined in an announcement in yesterday’s Royal Gazette. Smaller personal belongings such as purses, laptop bags, and backpacks are not included, as well as wheelchairs and other aids for people with disabilities, the elderly, and hospital patients.

If the stowed item is 50 inches or more in length or width, then passengers will have to fork out up to THB100 per item, while a charge of up to THB20 applies for items between 26 inches to 49.9 inches in length or width. Try to get away with several smaller bag strategy?…
