Mananchaya Sawangkaew secured her first WTA Tour title on Sunday night, defeating Austria’s Lilli Tagger in the final of the L&T Mumbai Open in India.

The 23-year-old Thai, ranked world No.236 and runner-up at the same tournament last year, produced a composed performance to overcome the 17-year-old seventh seed.

Tagger, ranked No.128, was unable to match Mananchaya’s consistency as the Thai closed out the contest in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Victory handed Mananchaya her maiden WTA 125 crown, along with prize money of US$15,500 (approximately 490,000 baht) and 125 ranking points.

It marks her second trophy in as many months, following success at the ITF W75 event, and makes her only the second Thai player to win a singles title at this level, after Luksika Khumkum, who has two such triumphs to her name.
