Bangkok Beef Battle lines up finest Wagu beef from Japan and Thailand at 2 restaurants at The Athenee Hotel

Two types of the finest Wagyu beef, matched with two of Asia’s greatest cuisines, are lined up for Bangkok’s Beef Battle at two of the outstanding restaurants at the 3rd floor epicurean hub of The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok.

The Beef Battle presents Kagoshima A4 Wagyu Beef at Kintsugi Bangkok by Jeff Ramsey, and Thai Korat Wagyu Beef at The House of Smooth Curry, served for lunch and dinner from now until 30 November 2020.

Why Kagoshima Beef? Kagoshima Prefecture is home to one of the largest livestock industries in Japan and is generally recognised as producing the country’s highest quality beef. Kagoshima A4 grade beef is perfect for preparing in the inimitable Modern Kaiseki style of Kintsugi Bangkok by Jeff Ramsey.

Chef Panu and the Kintsugi team have created a Wagyu A4 menu with highlights that include beef tartare (THB380++), with its complexity of flavours and textures and its puffed rice prepared in traditional dashi stock; 3 Kings (THB2,880++), in which A4 striploin is served either raw or seared on one side, together with lumpfish caviar and uni, the guest rolling all three together into one enticing parcel; and sukiyaki (THB1,280++), using premium truffle egg yolk with black truffle oil, steamed at 63 degrees C for 45 minutes, which Chef Panu says is the perfect timing for the yolk to be medium cooked.

Why Korat Beef? Thai Korat Wagyu Beef is the finest beef to be reared in Thailand, and matches perfectly the traditional heritage recipes and the locally sourced organic fruit and vegetables used by Chef Montri and his team at The House of Smooth Curry.

The Korat Beef menu presents a variety of dishes that include nam tok nuea yang (THB540++), a spicy North Eastern style Thai salad with char-grilled sliced striploin; nuea Wagyu tom madan (THB450++), a herbal soup that can be prepared only during the current season, as it uses the seasonal madan fruit instead of the more usual lime and consequently has a distinctive sour taste and aroma; and gaeng nuea Wagyu bai yee rah (THB540++), a rich red southern curry that uses the bai yee rah leaf to produce a characteristic and appetising aroma.

A 20% discount for Athenee Club members and 15% for Club Marriott members is applied, and Marriott Bonvoy benefits apply.

Kintsugi by Jeff Ramsey and The House of Smooth Curry are open every day:
