Barca, Juve win in Champions League as woeful Man Utd beaten

Lionel Messi scored his 71st Champions League group stage goal.

PARIS: Lionel Messi scored as Barcelona overcame a depleted Dynamo Kiev 2-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday, while Juventus eased Ferencvaros aside and Manchester United slumped to an unexpected defeat in Turkey.

Nine-man Paris Saint-Germain lost to RB Leipzig in a repeat of last season’s semi-final and Chelsea proved too strong for Rennes, with Timo Werner twice converting from the penalty spot.

Making his 150th appearance in European competition, Messi dispatched an early penalty at Camp Nou after he was fouled in the area and Gerard Pique headed in Ansu Fati’s cross on the hour.

Viktor Tsygankov grabbed a consolation for coronavirus-hit Dynamo as Barca, winless in four games in La Liga, recorded their third successive Group G victory…

Release of 4 rally leaders ‘justified’

Decision to prosecute now up to police

The Office of the Judiciary insisted on Tuesday it acted in accordance with legal procedures when it released four anti-government leaders on Monday.

Judiciary spokesman Suriyan Hongwilai said the cases had not yet entered the court system, so its decision to turn down a police request to detain the protest leaders for a third time was in line with international legal standards.

It was now up to the police whether to prosecute the four leaders, Mr Suriyan said, adding that the court had only been asked to examine the way the police had exercised their power in the case.

Ekkachai Hongkangwan and Suranat Paenprasert, charged with intending to do harm to Her Majesty the Queen’s liberty on Oct 14, were…

Gold traders see prices rise on US election

YLG gold bars on display. Gold prices are expected to move in a range of $1,800-1,950 an ounce this month, according to YLG Bullion & Futures.

Gold traders estimate gold prices will increase no matter which candidate wins the US presidential election, as the US central bank is expected to continue its aggressive monetary stimulus programme regardless of the victor.

MTS Gold Futures managing director Nuttapong Hirunyasiri said US political factors will support a gold price rise in the fourth quarter. Unlimited quantitative easing (QE) will weaken the US dollar in the long run, thus increasing the price of gold.

Market watchers should also keep an eye on the outcome of the US election today. If Donald Trump wins, stocks worldwide will increase because global trade policy will remain unchanged, he said. If…
