PHUKET: The carcass of a large green sea turtle, Chelonia mydas, was found floating in the sea off tambon Mai Khao in Thalang district on Saturday.
Prarop Plaengngam, chief of the 2nd Marine National Parks Operation Centre, said the discovery of the dead turtle was reported to him by Kokij Yuyen, a villager of Ban Kho-en.
The carcass was brought ashore for examination.
The turtle’s shell was 110 centimetres long and 97.5cm wide.
