Former health minister Mongkol dies at 79
Veteran physician and public servant was strong advocate of universal healthcare
Former public health minister Mongkol Na Songkhla died on Friday at the age of 79.
Dr Mongkol, who served as public health minister in the government of Gen Surayud Chulanont from October 2006 to February 2008, was being treated for cancer.
Before his death, Dr Mongkol announced on Facebook that he had been diagnosed with stage-3 renal carcinoma and planned to obtain treatment. He was pronounced dead at 10pm on Friday.
