A Thai teenager was arrested while trying to smuggle multiple knives into a Sattahip movie theater to watch “4Kings (Part 2),” a film portraying violent culture among vocational school students in Thailand.
The suspect, whose name was withheld due to his young age of 17, was arrested at the entrance of a movie theater at the Big C department store in Sattahip district, Chonburi province. According to Sattahip police, he was about to enter the cinema to watch the movie “4Kings (Part 2),” screened in the evening of December 4th.
Police received a tip from the cinema’s security staff that the teenager was carrying knives into the cinema. Upon inspection, the police found a 6 cm-long chisel, one sharp-tipped metal rod measuring 23 cm, one folding knife, and one box cutter in the suspect’s shoulder bag.
The teenager reportedly admitted that the weapons belonged to him and stated that he carried them for self-defense due to past altercations with other teenagers in the Sattahip area. He brought the weapons with him to watch the movie in anticipation that his rivals might show up and attempt to attack him for revenge.
Police charged the suspect with carrying weapons in public. He was taken into custody, and the police also informed his parents.
The 4Kings franchise depicts gang violence among Thai vocational school students. The movie revolves around violent and sometimes ‘fatal’ brawls between such students, dating back to the 90s when students would engage in fights against those from different schools.
