An alleged car thief was chased down by a car owner and a group of Good Samaritans in Pattaya last night, May 28th, resulting in his arrest.
The alleged thief, Mr. Noppadon Chonlatharawong, 25, was arrested by Pattaya Police last night on suspicions that he had stolen a pickup truck from a Thai owner, Ms. Chonnikarn Iamwichitkanok, 38, from her house in Pattaya. The victim had hired Mr. Noppadon to renovate her dwelling before he reportedly tried to vanish with her car.
At 10 PM, Ms. Chonnikarn noticed her black MG pickup truck that she parked in the garage missing along with Mr. Noppadon. She then alerted her family and started searching for the suspect.
Shortly after that, the victim spotted her vehicle on Soi Buakhao, and it was being driven by Mr. Noppadon although she did not give him any permission to touch her car. Ms. Chonnikarn and her family then chased after the vehicle, which alerted the suspect.
In an attempt to evade capture, Mr. Noppadon drove recklessly, swerving from side to side and even colliding with multiple vehicles owned by local residents.
Ms. Chonnikarn said her family member jumped onto the back of the pickup truck and smashed the window to try to unlock the door from inside. The culprit, however, opened the door and fled the group, leaving the vehicle behind.
Eventually, the suspect ran to hide in a room in an apartment within Soi Bua Khao where he was cornered and captured by the victim’s family and a group of Good Samaritans who were alerted by the incident and came to help. He was subsequently handed over to Pattaya Police.
According to the suspect’s claims, Mr. Noppadon had no intention of stealing the car as reported by the victim. He stated that he only ‘borrowed’ it to visit a sick relative and was actually on his way to return it.
Police were proceeding with legal charges against him. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=–=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
