A Thonglor shabu restaurant was reduced to cinders late yesterday afternoon after a gas leak fueled an explosion that injured two.
A loud explosion heard around 5:30pm during the rainy day evening rush hour was soon followed by a fire at the Evaime Shabu shop in Soi Thonglor 5 that consumed the building. A cook and her son were rushed to nearby Camillian Hospital for treatment.
It did not take long for firefighters to put the fire out, but the building was extensively damaged.
An investigation determined the explosion was caused by a gas leak. The cook said she had turned on the gas to make a dipping sauce. She unplugged something in the kitchen which caused a spark, and caused the explosion immediately.
