China will focus more on project quality to mitigate risk with its Belt and Road Initiative as the scheme enters its second decade and Beijing confronts a geopolitical rivalry with the United States, according to analysts.
In an annual plan tabled by the National Development and Reform Commission to the National People’s Congress on Sunday, the central government repeated its commitment to the scheme, saying it helped China open to the outside world, especially to developing countries, and gain access to global resources.
But it also cautioned that China would need to focus on project quality and strengthen risk control.
