Rescuers save Burmese baby who fell down well after 17-hour ordeal

A 1-year-old girl was recovering from her injuries today after she was trapped 17 hours down a well in the northwestern province of Tak.

Rescue workers managed to rescue the infant nearly a full day after she fell down the well late Monday afternoon at around 4pm. Her Burmese immigrant laborer parents had left her unattended while they were out working in the fields. 

The well, located in Tak’s Phop Phra district, proved difficult for officials to extract the child as it went down 15-meters and was only 30 centimeters in width.

More than 100 Disaster Response Association rescuers and volunteers worked frantically to save the baby by excavating the earth using heavy machinery and digging another hole parallel to the well.
