12 injured, 100+ homeless after fire wrecks Bangkok homes

At least 12 people were injured by a fire that tore through a Bangkok community Tuesday, leaving more than a hundred residents homeless.

An estimated 109 residents had to shelter temporarily at the Bon Kai Youth Center after Tuesday afternoon’s blaze destroyed upward of 30 residences in the Bon Kai community along Rama IV Road.

At least a dozen people were hospitalized.

Bangkok Gov. Chadchart Sittpunt, who went to inspect the site, said his office would provide urgent care for the victims. He said the homeowners will receive THB5,000 in compensation, while renters would receive THB3,000.

At around 1:30pm on Tuesday, flames gutted the inside of a two-story wooden home in Soi Pluk Chit 1 and spread to nearby residences. Plumes of smoke could be seen from afar.
